Strength Training And Back Problems

Strength training can help prevent injury, especially lower back problems. The key is having a balanced approach to training and not creating imbalances within the opposing muscle groups. Low back issues are often a result secondarily, of weaker core muscles. Your core muscles, especially the abdominal muscles, are important spinal stabilizers. Thus the strength of the stomach influences the health of the back. Don’t skip exercising the core muscles in order to save time at the gym. The physical payoff is too important! Back problems are no fun, and I have numerous patients who will agree with me.
