Outdoors for better eyesight..!!

Did you know that getting your kids outside to spend time, may be good for their eyesight? Today’s kids spend time indoors and with technology like no generation before them. According to research, spending more time outside appears to impact a child’s risk of developing nearsightedness dramatically. In fact, increasing outdoor time by approximately 14 hours per week can reduce the risk that a child with two nearsighted parents will develop nearsightedness, from 60% down to 20%. That is stunning news and is just about the same risk as those with non-nearsighted parents. Incredible…!!

Forget Fusion…!

Read this interesting information about the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation relative to spinal fusion surgery for lower back pain. A rule change, beginning 2018, says no spinal fusion surgery without at least 60 days of conservative care, prior. This conservative care can include chiropractic. Also, it states that opioids should be avoided whenever possible and the avoidance of “provider catastrophizing the explanation of the MRI findings.” Why? Because spinal fusion outcomes are significantly worse than non-fusion surgery. A study found 77% of the workers did not return to work for 2 years after fusion. Most back problems will respond to chiropractic and conservative care. Studies now support chiropractic care as being the first responders for conservative care. Pass the word!!

Squat, it works!!

The most healthy individual will most likely at some point in their life, experience back pain. Why? Because we are two legged creatures and most of the forces of our upper body is carried by the bottom two discs in our lumbar spine. Also, as we get older we tend to bend more with our backs when we pick stuff up. We either get lazy or weaker in the legs as we age, generally both. I watch my grandson, one day, almost every week and we play a lot of stuff. I observe him when he picks items up off the floor or ground, and he squats every time when he picks things up. Even at the playground, I notice other children do the same thing. Rarely do they bend at the waist. Take a tip from the little ones and reacquaint yourself with picking up and lifting things properly, and hopefully avoid those nasty back problems. But if you injure yourself, get to your chiropractor immediately, they will help!!
