Stand or sit, that is the question!!

If you think sitting too much is bad for your health, (it is), then this will open your eyes. Just when you’re tired of heath articles with bad news, this comes along. I read a synopsis of a study that said too much standing may be worse than too much sitting. A study of over 7300 factory workers were twice as likely to develop heart disease than those who sat, according to the study. Always being upright can cause blood to pool in the lower extremities rather than circulate back to the heart. Standing increases oxidative stress, triggering inflammation and over time this can increase cardiovascular risks. If you stand a lot, for any reason, for extended periods of time, it would serve your well to sit on a regular basis if possible!

Keep the Disc Healthy..!!

I read an article discussing back pain, and as most chiropractic patients know, adjustments can help reduce back pain, improve spinal function and reduce the need for surgery and the nasty meds such as opioids. Not to mention that patients rank their satisfaction with chiropractic care at the top of the list of provider care. A recent study proves that not only does chiropractic adjustments help with back pain but it may also help maintain or even increase the height of the spinal disc. As we age, or if the disc is injured , it often loses its height, usually through degenerative changes. Since the discs are the shock absorbers of our spine, it is imperative to do whatever one can, to maintain the overall health of their spine. Chiropractic can help with a variety of health issues and this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.!!

Sugar and cancer connection?

Do you have a sweet tooth? If you are one of the millions of people who like their sugar, you may want to give this a look. In a recent study scientist have possibly identified a link between sugar and cancer. Though there is no specific direct connection in humans yet, they have identified that when sugar is broken down within our cells, an intermediate compound that is produced during the process activates a specific protein that can mutate into a cancerous gene. Though the study was done on yeast cells, they acted like cancer cells, which rely on taking in glucose and fermenting it to produce lactic acid. Normal cells take in glucose and turn it into carbon dioxide and water. The takeaway here is that cancer patients may want to avoid as much sugary intake as possible to stop proliferation of cancer cells, since all cells use glucose. More research need to be done however it is food for thought!
