Antibiotics and Natural Disease Resistance

A scary article in the news recently stated that in 2010, 258 million courses of antibiotics were prescribed in the US. That is an incredible 833 prescriptions per 1000 people. This has been going on for years. In Chicago, during 1985, 160,000 people became ill from Salmonella. Those who got sick and were taking antibiotics in the month prior to becoming ill, were 5 times more likely to get ill, than those who drank the milk and had not been exposed to antibiotics within the previous month. Long term, broad spectrum, antibiotic use can possibly wipe out and permanently destroy the good bacteria species within the colon, reducing your resistance to disease. Because once the good bacteria population reaches zero, they are permanently wiped out! More on this next time.
